What are FRP Composites?
Fibre-Reinforced Plastic (FRP) is essentially a composite material that comprises of fibres, such as glass, carbon, aramid or basalt that give it its structurally sound and durable composition.
Benefits of Using FRP Composites
The structural integrity of FRP composite products allows it to have great strength-to-weight ratio, elasticity and durability. FRP composites are also substantially lighter than precast concrete or steel materials, hence making it easier to build, install and work with.
FRP composites are also corrosion-resistant, and are able to withstand extreme environmental elements. Given this, they are commonly used in the aerospace, automotive, marine, and construction industries to strengthen various structures as a long-term solution.
Apart from its durable physical properties, FRP composites can also be produced and installed in a shorter period of time, in comparison to traditional materials, such as concrete or steel-based products, thus making it more appealing to both commercial and industrial clients.
Furthermore, due to its durability, FRP composites do not require constant and often maintenance, thus driving costs lower. A yearly routine inspection at least should be sufficient to ensure all systems are in place. Should an issue arise, Hexagon Composite technicians are available for service and repair.
